JOURNEY IN LITERATURE: Infinite Journeys but all important

Image
In this semester I learned the meaning of a Journey. In the beginning, when I heard this word, I pictured various roads that each takes you to a different place and experiences were we grow, enjoy and make memories. Before I enrolled in this course, I looked at the various literature courses offered and upon reading Journey in Literature I began to think “A journey in literature? What could that be” and got curious so I enrolled? I searched the word at Merriam Webster and it came up as Journey: something suggesting travel or passage from one place to another; the journey from youth to maturity; a journey through time; an act or instance of traveling from one place to another. Upon reading the definition I began to think it was like a history type of class that involved some reading and also some analyzing but It was way better than what I expected. In the course, the thought of my definition of journey changed. From the standard meaning from Merriam Webster ...

THE HOLISTIC NOMADS : Group experience

Image
The first day of class was very interesting, the first thing we did was divide into groups. The thought that immediately rushed into my mind was how am I going to choose the group, which person is irresponsible, which is nicer… and at the end the professor assigned to us the group. At the first group meeting, my mind was put to rest. Each of them as the first impression was really friendly and open. Also, group projects are a really nice way to meet new people even though I’m skeptical sometimes because some group projects sometimes don’t go well. But in this case, it did go very well. We chose the name “Holistic Nomads” and my experiences in this group have been amazing. Since the beginning we assigned roles to each one, mine is the Task Manager. Each of us spans from natural Sciences to Social Sciences and in the first assignment, we got to know each other well and immediately clicked. Each assignment we did as a group was fun. Even though we sometimes ha...

GO FOR A WALK Activity

Image
This exercise was a little complicated for me. I normally drive or walk without noticing to much detail in my surroundings. I began this exercise thinking I never have walked around the block of my apartment. I have been 4 and a half years living in my apartment and never stopped to look at my surrounds and its details. Makes you think all the places I have been and only scratched the surface of the possible experiences and the details I have missed. In the photo from above I planned the route for this exercise. The red was from when I started and the blue the return of the trip. For the activity, I started exiting my condominium from the back and going to the right, while walking I noticed a lot of people have moved in to the empty houses there where a short time ago. I noticed there was an empty parking lot with only two very old cars. I have seen these cars before but never stopped to think why there where there, and why they were left there. Also I’m v...

LIFE THROUGH OUR EYES

Image
REFLECTION ABOUT ON LOOKING BY ALEXANDRA HOROWITZ The reading was a good eye-opener for me. Right at the beginning, she caught your attention. Funny that she caught your attention by explaining the phenomenon of attention and how we express it as human beings. We, as a reader can really connect with her and her experience. She describes her experience of when she went dog walking and noticed some details of her “block”.   Reading this you begin to think all the places you have been and all the details you miss. It’s like looking at a 360 camera but only viewing 150 degrees of it, which is more or less the human eyesight. It’s impossible to view everything at the same time. The attention is also filtered from the point of view of the person, everybody looks at the world differently and multiple people viewing exactly the same thing will have different answers when asked what it is. In the reading, she tells us the same kind of idea “There is a certain bias in every one's per...

CAN SOMETHING DEFINE YOU?

Image
W hen you think of your identity is something that doesn’t come as a rapid answer or concept. It is something that encompasses a whole lifetime of experiences, memories, and journeys. Identity is a concept that is so well built into the core of our minds, all of having a unique way of feeling and point of view. As humans, we relate certain objects of our past and mark them with memories or a certain experience that mark your life. For me is hard talking about my identity, because of it not easy to express and it doesn’t have a straight answer. In my childhood, I was a very controlled kid. Didn’t cause too much trouble, always followed important rules and always was in my very own world. In plain words, I didn’t do much. I always played with Legos or watch Disney or Cartoon Network on the TV. In those early years, I was like a child tinkerer. Anything I saw on the floor or near my reach, I always took it to my room and disassemble it, I wanted to know what that thing was. I always ha...

Tourist For a Day!

Image
Today is May 3, and I set out on the mission to see if I pass as a tourist in my own city of San Juan. I planned the day and decided to wear shorts, a printed t-shirt, and a baseball cap. I set my mind to go walk Old San Juan with American cousin. It was channeling to set my mind to only talk English once I arrived. My cousin luckily has a rented car, so it was a plus on the tourist experience. We decided to walk to get to the Morro:   and for there we continued south of old San Juan to the restaurants. We stopped and ask for directions constantly because I was set out to see Old San Juan as viewing it new, with no previous knowledge. While walking we stopped to ask for recommendations for a restaurant, to my surprise some of the people didn’t know English or just plain ignored us. Luckily we found a couple that recommended us to the restaurant Raices and gave us directions to arrive. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I met up with some family friends and as a ...
