JOURNEY IN LITERATURE: Infinite Journeys but all important

In this semester I learned the meaning of a Journey. In the beginning, when I heard this word, I pictured various roads that each takes you to a different place and experiences were we grow, enjoy and make memories. Before I enrolled in this course, I looked at the various literature courses offered and upon reading Journey in Literature I began to think “A journey in literature? What could that be” and got curious so I enrolled? I searched the word at Merriam Webster and it came up as Journey: something suggesting travel or passage from one place to another; the journey from youth to maturity; a journey through time; an act or instance of traveling from one place to another. Upon reading the definition I began to think it was like a history type of class that involved some reading and also some analyzing but It was way better than what I expected.

In the course, the thought of my definition of journey changed. From the standard meaning from Merriam Webster to a more personal and internal meaning. This course was more about personal internal and external journeys which better helped myself understand how my emotions and feeling relate to external experiences and how it relates to my personality.

The thing that helped me express and understand was making the journal. I also learned how to relate those external journeys like the place where I’m at and the meaning of how the internal journey is changed. I began to notice when making the cover for my journal that made me reflect on what was, is, and going to be my journey. Important parts of my Journey is the decision to become a Computer Scientist, the passion for technology, my family, my friends and especially Puerto Rico. There are more factors than the ones I mentioned, but that is something I must reflect and keep discovering them. Which is difficult since we are ever-changing and improving.

I learned that there are ways to express my emotions and thoughts one of them being writing, which I never considered. Which help orient myself and see how I was doing. The journal was a great way to let loose since I wrote freely without rules or being keen on perfect grammar. Each exercise we did in class helped us learn the different Journeys through readings and discussion.

It also make me reflect on the journey, not only external and internal, but to also try to understand others people’s journeys and also the cultural journey. All of these various implementations of the word Journey and the different meanings open my eyes, in such a way I’m more attentive to the details and my emotions. Life will always take us to different journeys leading to different path and leading to different experiences. We can say there are Infinite Journeys!

  1. HIIIIIIII!!!!!!!! So are you saying that in this class you basically went through a journey and found a new passion for writing? Also loved what you did at the end when you said ¨Life will always take us to different journeys leading to different path and leading to different experiences. We can say there are Infinite Journeys!¨

  2. Hi! I liked that your post started off with the definition of journey as you found it in the dictionary and then as class started, the definition changed for you. I'm happy that the journal helped you understand how your external journeys can relate to your personality.
